A place where you will feel heard and seen
You may hear me break the ice with a joke during our first session so we can both settle in. After that, we are just two people trying to figure out the answer to difficult questions TOGETHER.
This is a place where you don’t have to worry about being judged or told how to live; you can just be yourself and grow the way you want to grow. This is where you can feel truly heard and seen.
We will work organically, following the parts of therapy that are most vibrant. Therapy should not be rote or boring. It should feel alive, electric, like you are going somewhere each session.
We will collaborate and communicate about what moves you. You might be surprised: some people come to therapy looking for concrete life-skills and end up loving dream analysis or creative work; others are looking for a deep-dive into spiritual questions and find learning organization skills ends ups feeling alive and useful. No two people are alike, so neither should two courses of therapy.
Interactive Therapy
The human psyche is limitless, and it is important to stay curious and respect its depth. That is why I make therapy feel lively and exciting.
I will regularly make connections, go through guided exercises (meditations, guided visualizations, thought experiments, dream analysis), and offer suggestions for how to continue the work outside of the office space.
You might find yourself at home writing a song about a dream, watching a TV show you hadn’t seen since you were ten, or practicing effective communication skills with your partner. Why?
Because doing something different and building a new relationship with yourself will change your life. I know because it saved mine.
About P. Taylor Van Zile IV, PhD
My experience with therapy
As a teenager, I got caught up in addiction. It haunted me for many years, until I became curious, experimented with life, and decided it was time to put effort into my relationship with myself. That’s when I decided to go to therapy.
I’ll never forget my first therapist. He had long hair, wore Hawaiian shirts, and asked me to talk to a trashcan like it was my disembodied anxiety. I cherished that hour every week, I finally felt like someone understood me and pushed me to grow and heal using language that resonated with me.
Perfecting my skills
I have worked long and hard at perfecting my clinical skills because I know they can be transformative. I treat them with the respect of life-saving tools.
Most rewarding of all, I have seen so many of my patients develop these same skills for themselves. Nothing makes me happier than patients returning to a session, with a smile on their face, saying they practiced what we discussed in session and that it led to real change.
Outside of work
You are likely to find me hiking with my son in the woods, playing with our cats, Muzzy and Snugs, riding my motorcycle through the mountains, getting lost in my synthesizers and turntables, dancing, engaging in my spiritual practice, or simply sitting. Being.
